Miers. The Best? Out of Who?
I have been sitting on this for a few days. Letting it stew, become more like the pile of shit that I feel it is.
Bush issued a release saying that he felt he nominated the best person from the candidates that he had to choose from. Now I will not pretend that I read about every person who could have been nominated, but I will say...I call Bullshit.
President Bush has shown time and time again that it is the Good ol'e boys club, back in action. Scratch my back and I will scratch yours, screw what is right. What is fair.
Do you know anything about Miers? Well, let me tell you just a few things.
She is in my opinion, non-stance. She doesn't take a stance, and is not continuous in what she says.
If someone tells you she is for gay rights, civil unions, and all jive, don't believe them. Yes she did say, when she was his counsel in TX, that she is for civil unions. But guess what, she also did not want the sodomy laws repelled. How can one be for a homosexual union, and be against them having sex? Really. You cannot say, oh yes, I think you should be able to be in a civil union, and then say, but you cannot have sex. Marriages at one point in time were made by just the act of consummation. In some countries, that is still all it takes.
Her stance on abortion rights, is just...pittuy. That is not even a word, more like the sound of spit. But that is what I feel when I think of her, and my right to choose. Honestly, I would never get an abortion; However, I will never tell someone what they can and cannot do with their body. I will not invade on someone’s right to privacy. That is what Roe v. Wade comes down to. Not so much the right to have an abortion, but the right to privacy if you so choose to. There are other cases that solidified the right of a women to choose. Roe v. Wade is just the most common. She has said that she will not want to overturn something already set in stone as a precedent. On the other hand, she is also a staunch pro-life supporter. That always makes me giggle. Pro-life. Should that not also include the right to have the life that I would so choose. Not one you choose for me.

She is not the little miss goody that they are making her out to be. She is not someone who should replace Sandra Day O’Conner. You have to have someone there to balance out the sides. To offer a voice that the others may not see. To me, Miers is not that person. From what I see, she is willing to do what she is told, how she is told, for reasons she is told. We need a person in this role who has an understanding that there is another side. That lifestyles does not equate lives. That women need the privacy to do what they want to their bodies. That even though the Good Ol'e Boys are back and well, that they do not speak for the rest of us.
So, each of us has a duty. To let our representatives know how we feel. The questions that are important to us. Even if you are a conservative who sees her as a possibility, you have to want more. More of where she stands. Not a no stance let me be your puppy kind of nomination.
